Sacramental Prep for Confirmation
Confirmation brings to completion the
grace received through baptism. By this sacrament the baptized are more
perfectly bound to the church and are enriched by the strength of the Holy
Spirit.
This gift conforms believers more
fully to Christ and strengthens them to bear witness to Christ for the building
up
of his body in faith and love.
Beginning in 2010, the Sacraments of
Confirmation and Eucharist will no longer be administered together to children
in the second grade in the Diocese of Greensburg. As a result of the
development of a new and comprehensive Catechetical Curriculum for Grades Pre-K
through 8, a process to raise the age of reception for the Sacrament of
Confirmation to children in the eighth grade was begun. The current practice
for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of Greensburg
would be enhanced by a catechetical and pastoral model that will continue
to
advance and deepen the understanding of this life-giving sacrament for
children, youth, young adults and adults.
The next scheduled Confirmation class
for our region will be the spring of 2013. Children who have received their
first Penance and Communion should continue to be enrolled in and attending CCD
until then. Children who are in the fourth grade during the 2012 – 2013 school year
will be prepared for reception of this sacrament according to the guidelines
set up by the diocese.
