Faith formation programs for children allow them to develop
their faith through the witness of adults. They provide a comprehensive and
systematic program of instruction and formation in the different dimensions of
the Christian faith.
The goal of faith formation programs in our parishes and schools is twofold:
• To introduce children to the person of Jesus Christ and present his
teachings, ministry and major events of his life.
• To assist children in learning the parables, formal prayers, sacred
Scripture and meaning of the Sacraments.
In
order to help us accomplish the new diocesan educational curriculum and
guidelines, we have partnered with our sister parish of Christ the King
to provide a combined “inclusive” catechetical program. Although
catechists will still guide instruction in a classroom setting for
children in grades K through 5, we will also provide sessions for
children in 6 through 8 based on a youth group model.
Additionally we will provide opportunities for adult, parent and family/parish activities.
Monday
nights are now Faith Formation night at St. Gertrude. Classes
will meet from 6:30 PM until 7:45 PM at the Cardinal Maida
Academy. Homeschooling is still an option but parents must now
meet the same diocesan certification requirements as classroom
catechists.
For the children age 5 to 12, we offer Liturgy of the Word for
Children during the Sunday Liturgy from
September – May during the 10:30 AM
Mass.
Seasonal Family Faith and Fun Nights may be scheduled
throughout the year as well as a shared summer
