Father James H. Loew, O.S.B.

Fr. James H. Loew, O.S.B., was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 4, 1967.  He is the son of James and Helen (Socolovich) Loew of Medina, Ohio.

He attended Incarnate Word Grade School in Parma Heights, Ohio, and is a 1985 graduate of Medina High School.  In 1990, Fr. James received a bachelor degree in sociology from Kent State University.  He received a master of divinity degree from Saint Vincent Seminary in 1996.

Fr. James entered the monastic community on July 1, 1991, and made a simple profession of vows on July 10, 1992, and a solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1995.  He was ordained a deacon on May 14, 1996, and a priest on May 31, 1997, by the Most Rev. Anthony Bosco, Bishop of Greensburg, at Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica.

He served the Monastic community as a sacristan (1992), director of the sacristy (1993-1996), and with the Archabbey Lay Retreat Program (1992-1993).  He has been an assistant archivist (1994-1996).  Fr. James served his deacon internship at Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette (1996-1997), and served as parochial vicar there from 1997 to 2002.  He was then named parochial vicar at Saint Mary Parish in St. Mary’s, PA, until May 2005, when he was appointed temporary parochial administrator.  From 2006 to 2007, he was curator of the Archabbey Coin and Stamp Collections.  From 2006 to 2010, he served as director of Sacristies.  From 2008 to 2009, he was assistant master of ceremonies, and from 2007 to 2009, he was manager of the Gristmill General Store.  From 2008 to 2009, he served as assistant manager of the cemetery office.

In 2009, Fr. James was appointed as our pastor. In February, 2014, Christ the King Parish and Saint Gertrude Parish were partnered.  Fr. James, while continuing as our pastor, was appointed Administrator for Christ the King Parish, and is now pastor of both.
